Fishing in southwest Florida is seasonal. Spring is the beginning of the migration and is prime time for fishing the flats. Bait fish start to return in schools to the shallow water. Redfish and large trout come up on the flats in droves for one reason. To eat! With the warming of the harbor waters we find Snook and Tarpon returning from the rivers to join in the feasting after a long winters rest. In summer all species are available but it is the Silver King that takes most of our attention along with big Snook that populate the passes and roam the beaches. The fall mullet run signals another feeding frenzy on the flats for all species. Redfish can be seen traveling in schools that turn the water red for acres. In winter all species move to deeper warmer water and on selected warm sunny days we are given the gift of superb shallow water sight fishing, as all fish return to the flats to feed.
